Movie screenings are on track to return to Harbor East early this year.
Harbor East Cinemas, the movie theater replacing the shuttered Landmark Theatres at the entrance to the waterfront neighborhood, is slated to open in the spring, an attorney representing the project said Thursday.
Caroline Hecker, a managing partner for law firm Rosenberg Martin Greenberg, told Baltimore City liquor board commissioners that the “best-case scenario” would be a March opening for the 26,000-square-foot cinema, which switched operators in early 2021.
“There have been delays in construction and supply chain issues,” Hecker said, “but we’re expecting to be able to open this spring.”
When it opens, Harbor East Cinemas will feature a revamped interior with a smaller seating capacity than its predecessor and other adaptations related to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. New operator Flagship Premium Cinemas plans to schedule screenings of new releases as well as independent and art house films. The company also said it will look into adding live performances like stand-up comedy shows, small-scale musical concerts and magic acts.
