Atlas Restaurant Group’s newest concept in Harbor East will maximize opportunities for outdoor seating, new renderings show.
An outdoor patio planned for Maximón, a Latin American-inspired restaurant slated to open later this year, will add a Spanish-style courtyard with fountains, greenery and an outdoor bar to the waterfront by the Four Seasons Hotel.
Baltimore-based Atlas released three new illustrations of the space this week. They show a courtyard, conceptualized by local designer Patrick Sutton, bathed in purple light and separated by a wall from a public promenade along the water.
The patio will take over an elevated area that was used only occasionally by the property’s previous tenant Wit & Wisdom, Atlas spokesman Joe Sweeney said. The upscale restaurant from celebrity Chef Michael Mina closed Jan. 1 after seven years in the hotel.
Maximón’s patio will seat 125 people in all, including 18 seats at an oval-shaped bar set in the middle of the courtyard. The outdoor dining space will also be decorated with three fountains, Mexican tile accents and plants scattered throughout, Sweeney said.
Atlas is still eyeing a late fall opening for the restaurant, which will serve food inspired by South American and Mexican cuisine. The restaurant group recently hired Chef Colin King to helm Maximón’s kitchen, and has been hiring for a wide range of positions at the eatery.
Inside, the restaurant will seat 175 people and will feature a main dining room, bar and lounge, as well as a tasting room where guests can make their own blends of tequila. There will also be a stage for performances by Latin musicians. F.M. Harvey Construction is doing interior and exterior work for the project.
Maximón will be Atlas’ fourth restaurant inside the Four Seasons Hotel. The restaurant group also operates Loch Bar, Azumi and the Bygone there, in addition to six other restaurants in Baltimore. Atlas is also nearing an opening date for The Choptank, a seafood restaurant with an extensive outdoor patio in the south shed of Fells Point’s revitalized Broadway Market.
